Illustration

I’ve been drawing since I was 10 years old, driven by a passion to create fanart. Over the years since, I have ventured into creating graphic novels, full illustrations, and original character design.

Spotlight: The Lolita Power Fantasy (2020)

Painted in Clip Studio Paint (September 2020) for a CMNS 221 (Media and Popular Cultures) assignment taken at SFU, Fall 2020. Original concept.

This was meant to be a subversion of the typical male power fantasy in popular culture with a slight twist. I think there’s a very sore lack of very strong, badass heroines who are not only not-sexualized (a tired topic), and not only strong and badass, but also still comfortable with embracing her femininity. When it comes to the issue of having female heroine representation, many seem to think that femininity has to be left by the wayside when designing such a character, especially in aesthetics. The outfit in this piece is inspired by a Japanese street fashion called elegant gothic lolita. One of the iconic figures within the community, Misako Aoki, once said in an interview that “lolita is battle armor that shields me from my insecurities.” Femininity, and fashion by extension, can be so much more powerful and valuable to us than many people give it credit for. This drawing is essentially my love letter to that concept.

UBC Anime Club promo art

I was the Creative Director at UBC Anime Club from 2019-2021. This entailed creating fully rendered illustrations to be used as promotional artwork for the club and its events.

Album artwork - Trifect

I work with the musician Trifect (check out his Spotify!). I designed his mascot character when I created the album artwork for his first single, Sky, and created the album artwork for several other of his tracks from 2015 onwards.

Original character designs and illustration

I enjoy fantasy tabletop roleplaying games, which is why I’ve come up with several original character designs, as well as concept art for each. Some of these were commissioned.

Graphic novel: Late Nights

Created for IAT 100 (Digital Image Design) Project 2, taken at SFU in Summer 2020. Story and artwork by Trisha Wong, based on the characters and setting from the manga BEASTARS by Paru Itagaki. This project focused on sequential design.

Graphic novel: Are U Happy?

Very short graphic novel created for CRWR 209 (Introduction to Writing for Graphic Forms) taken at UBC in Fall 2017.
